I (also) Once Met ... Bob Hawke

A glimpse of the simpatico Hawke ... Boating up north ... A photo opportunity ... Lister Harrison invited to snap the former PM with his arm around a local man

Blanche & Bob: Broome to Darwin

My wife and I were on a boat trip from Broome to Darwin, with frequent forays inland.

Bob and Blanche also were on the boat.

At one stop-off, while we were waiting around for our transport inland, a local Aboriginal man approached Bob and asked, very deferentially, "Mr Hawke, could I please take your photo?"

I was standing nearby.

Without missing a beat, Mr Hawke took his camera and handed it to me and said, "Here, would you take our photo, please."

Which I did.

So now, happily, the local has a photo on his own camera of Bob Hawke with his arm around his shoulders. Which I am sure he will treasure.
